Did you know that listening to music can help a young child build his mathematical skills and improve his chances of success in school? Research have shown that exposure to music at a young age helps a child improve certain areas of the brain such as memory and spatial-temporal reasoning. The younger your child starts listening to and interacting with music the greater the benefits. For this reason it is important to expose music to children at a very young age, even as young as birth.
With proper guidance such as through a good music class, spatial-temporal reasoning is developed as the child moves in response to the sound of the music and guided through the musical structure and characteristics of the music. Through music and movement, the child will learn how his body relates to objects and structures around him while gaining such spatial concepts and perspective such as behind, near and far. Playing instruments and reading musical notation further enhance and build pathways in the frontal lobe (the thinking part of the brain). These pathways will be used later in life for spatial-temporal tasks in Music Math
Another good reason to expose your child at an early age to proper Music For Math activities is that these musical experiences teach your toddler about Patterns. Children love to see patterns in their everyday life and often prefer simple and repetitive songs (nursery songs, rhymes and folk songs) with recognizable and predictable patterns. The ability to discern auditory patterns is an important skill often neglected in general school subjects and an important element in solving mathematical problems.
Children love learning through music. Its fun, engaging, and also helps build up your child's confidence and interaction skills in the music and movement class. Introduce your child to Music And Math early in his life. The benefits last a life-time.
